New app for LSAT prep

The Harvard law grad who created the BarMax app has now created a similar resource for pre-law students preparing for the LSAT. LSATMax, will be released this week as the first comprehensive LSAT prep course for download in the Apple App Store.

LSATMax was developed by Harvard Law alumni and has strategies for how to tackle all the different sections of the LSAT. It’s not a cheap app, retailing for $599.99, but the company is offering a deal for students who pre-purchase a copy.

They say that law schools and banks are running a scam. “Dishonest” law schools report misleading employment data, which lures prospective students into the profession like “hapless lemmings” to their death. The “greedy” banks happily give the students oppressive loans to pay for the exorbitant tuition fees. And then the students graduate to discover that the high-paying salaries and jobs are just not there.

The six hottest practice areas

Not all legal practice specialties are created equal. And in this down economy, the hotter practice areas are fueling entry-level hiring at the small- and medium-sized law firms, where the vast majority of law school graduates get jobs.

“Law firms specializing in bankruptcy, foreclosure and litigation are adding staff to meet increased demand for their services,” said Charles Volkert, executive director of Robert Half Legal. One-third of all lawyers interviewed by Robert Half Legal Hiring said they plan to add legal jobs soon, a figure that is improving from quarter to quarter.
