Buffalo law students praised by professor for saving his life

State Supreme Court Justice Richard Kloch, Sr. is thanking seven of his students in his trial technique class at the University at Buffalo Law School. Kloch was teaching the students in early September when his left knee started hurting from a recent surgery he had to repair a damaged joint.

He released the class, but they refused to leave as his knee swelled to three times its size, Kloch said. The students carried him outside to a shuttle bus that was going to take him to his car on the other side of campus, but he was later taken by ambulance to the hospital instead. Doctors drained the knee, which had an infection and a massive clot, which could have turned into an embolism, Kloch said.

“I would have never had a chance if it wasn’t for those seven law school students,” Kloch told The Buffalo News. “Lawyers are supposed to be compassionate, and these future lawyers were compassionate. They did the greatest job for me when they could have walked right out the door.”
