Columbia Law School has announced a three-week program for foreign law students and attorneys that will focus on U. S. business law. The program will cover U.S. business and legal institutions and be taught by Columbia faculty. It will also include visits to professional and cultural sites in New York City, social and networking events, and talks with practitioners, academic experts and career strategists.

The program will run from July 13 to July 31. Tuition, housing and lunches is $6,500.

Courses will include: Corporations; Corporate Governance; Mergers and Acquisitions; Deals: an introduction to the law and economics of transactions; U.S. Tax Law and Policy; U.S. Legal Institutions: an introduction.

Each class will include eight hours of classroom instruction and will be taught in English .

Participants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States will most likely require a J-1 visa (and not a tourist or business visa) to participate in the program.  The Office of International Programs, in conjunction with Columbia University’s International Scholars and Students Office (ISSO), will advise admitted students about these requirements on an individual basis. Columbia University will not charge an additional fee for J-1 visa sponsorship, but participants should be aware that visa application fees may be required by the US consulate at the time of your visa application.
