Florida State law student gets 3 years for shooting

It was a BAD week for…

Forgiveness, after former Florida State law student Tyler Thomas complained to a judge that his fellow classmate, Jeffery Heller, deserved more than three years in prison for shooting him in 2012. Heller, a 3L at the time of the incident, took a plea deal with a felony charge of aggravated battery instead of the original charge of attempted second-degree murder. Heller also received 10 years probation.

Thomas, who was a 2L at the time of the shooting, told the judge that Heller deserved a longer sentence. On the night of the attack, Heller had been drinking at a bar. He came home and Thomas threw a glass of water at him. That prompted Heller to shoot Thomas in the back. Heller was then nice enough to drive his victim to the emergency room, but did not help him into the ER. Heller woke up the next morning in a stranger’s vehicle, and he claims to have no recollection of the incident.
