Loyola Law School, Los Angeles is launching a range of degree programs in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Law. The programs, the first of their kind on the West Coast, will draw on the law school’s strengths in intellectual property, digital privacy and cybercrime. They will be available to students pursuing a degree from the school’s multiple programs: Master of Science in Legal Studies (MLS) and Master of Laws (LLM) students will pursue it as a specialization, and Juris Doctor students will pursue it as a concentration.

The programs will capitalize on the expertise of Silicon Beach, national security, intellectual property and related sectors based in Los Angeles. Courses will include Incident Response & Investigation and Cybersecurity & Regulatory Compliance. The programs will integrate the range of already-existing cybersecurity classes, including Cyber & IP Crimes, IP in the Digital Age, and Technology & Privacy. Practical-training opportunities like the Cybercrimes Moot Court competition will satisfy experiential requirements. Following a unique interdisciplinary approach, the law school will offer courses in conjunction with the Seaver College of Science and Engineering at Loyola Marymount University.

“Loyola is deeply connected to the legal and technological epicenter of Los Angeles,” said Senior Associate Dean Sean Scott, who created the program. “We are uniquely positioned to equip students with the skills needed to help clients with the complex legal demands of the evolving technological landscape.”
