Loyola Law New Orleans launches solo practitioner incubator

The Loyola University New Orleans College of Law has created the Loyola Incubator Program for new lawyers seeking solo practice. The Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice will work with new lawyers in an intensive, year-long mentorship and skills program for recent graduates of the law school. The incubator was jumpstarted thanks to a grant from the American Bar Association.

“We are so pleased to provide this wonderful opportunity for our graduates and our community,” said Davida Finger, associate clinical professor and inaugural dean of the Loyola Incubator Program. “The Loyola Incubator Program demonstrates the College of Law’s commitment to providing outstanding legal training and to using the law for social justice ends.”

The 12-month program will accept five lawyers within their first three years of solo practice and help them launch their solo careers with the help of resources such as mentors, peer feedback, case referrals and training in law office management. Incubator participants will earn their spot by providing pro bono legal services to low income individuals.

Loyola University New Orleans is one of seven schools in the nation to receive a grant from the American Bar Association’s Legal Access Job Corp Initiative to start pro bono incubator programs.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue training our graduates as they enter the profession. The American Bar Association has recognized the good work that takes place at the College of Law, and it is very gratifying,” said Dean María Pabón López.
