Religious freedom, after the Law Society of British Columbia approved a conservative Christian university in Canada to open a law school in 2016, despite a provision in its covenant which forbids students from engaging in sexual intercourse outside of heterosexual marriage. Gay advocates had argued the coventant discriminated against homosexuals. The school argued it would be religious discrimination had the decision been made to refuse approval. The passage of the covenant states students must abstain from “sexual intimacy that violates the sacredness of marriage between a man and a woman.” Students can be punished for violating the clause. Trinity Western University Law School will be the first Christian University to open a law school in Canada. “If a gay or lesbian or bi student wished to come to Trinity Western University and wished to comply with the community covenant as it’s written, then there’s no problem,” University President Bob Kuhn said. “If the answer would be no, then presumably they would choose another place to do their schooling.” .

Learning how to dress appropriately, after Loyola Law School, Los Angeles sent a memo to female law students informing them they should not expose cleavage or wear spike heels. The memo was distributed to students completing externships off campus. In the memo, students were informed that cleavage and stilettos were not appropriate for office attire. “Your reputation in the legal community starts now!” the memo said. “The legal community is small in L.A. and judges [and] lawyers who have unprofessional experiences with externs talk freely amongst themselves about the experiences. It can be embarrassing.”

Wise use of funds, after Louisiana College dished out about $5.5 million for a law school that never admitted any students and never opened its doors. Louisiana College announced in 2008 it planned to open the Judge Paul Pressler School of Law. The college subsequently purchased a building in 2011. That building has been listed with a real estate company since last year. The law school planned to have its inaugural entering class in 2009, but faced several delays. Its last planned opening was in 2012. The school faced accreditation problems, which caused many of the delays.
