University of South Carolina has hired within for its new dean. Robert M. Wilcox will take over for Walter “Jack” Pratt’ on July 1.
Wilcox, a legal-ethics scholar, is a graduate of the law school, and is currently associate dean for academic affairs at the school.
USC President Harris Pastides said Wilcox would “usher in a new era for USC’s law school,” and noted that his knowledge and experience as a professor and administrator would help guide his leadership.
“Rob’s ability to inspire trust and forge relationships will serve the law school well as it moves into a new era, one marked by investments in new programs, facilities, faculty replenishment and expanded student services,” Pastides said.
A Charleston native, he graduated cum laude from Duke University with a B.A. in economics and history in 1978 and magna cum laude from the USC law school in 1981. From 2003 to 2008, Wilcox directed the Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough Center on Professionalism at the law school.
Wilcox also co-authored the book, “Annotated South Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct,” which was published by the SC Bar.
