Thomas Jefferson defaults on loan, but has great restaurant

It was a Good and Bad week for Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

It was bad week because news broke that the school defaulted on a loan payment in late June. It said it made a partial payment and is currently negotiating with bondholders to restructure the debt. It has until Oct. 16 to work out a deal on its $133 million in debt, otherwise it would need to cease operations. However, the school is very confident a deal will be reached. Most of that debt is related to the construction of its new building in downtown San Diego.

It was a good week because the school is getting great buzz for a new Italian grocery store and restaurant located it its building. The law school carved out space on its ground floor and rented it out to help bring in more revenue. It chose Bottega Americano, which includes a marketplace where you can order coffee, dessert and deli items and a full menu for the upscale restaurant.
