It was a GOOD week for…

Lowering the costs of legal education, after the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law announced it was slashing tuition for out-of-state students from $37,864 down to $23,852 — a 37 percent decrease. It takes effect with the fall 2014 semester.

“With this reduction in tuition for out-of-state students, we have positioned ourselves to continue and amplify the recent trend of increased enrollment amongst students from outside Tennessee,” said Memphis Law Dean Peter Letsou.

The University of Memphis already made the preLaw magazine’s list of 2014 Best Value Schools, based on in-state tuition. The change makes it more attractive to non-residents as well.

Seven other law schools have previously announced tuition cuts, including University of Arizona, University of La Verne and University of Iowa. Most other schools announced there would be fewer scholarships in lieu of the tuition drops.
