It was a Bad Week for supporting activism, after University of the District of Columbia received hate mail for offering to let law students defer an exam if they were participating as legal observers for demonstrators in Baltimore.
Dean Shelley Broderick told students that the police accountability movement needs the best lawyers “that we can train. It is our aspiration that you become the future of the legal support for the most important cases of the next generation.”
Fox News, however, ran with a story titled, “Reward for Rioting,” which prompted most of the letters of condemnation.
Still, school officials said they have received more positive responses than negative ones.
