University of Miami creates online legal journal

University of Miami School of Law Professor A. Michael Froomkin has created an online journal that selects the best new legal articles to help lawyers and legal academics choose what to read.

The journal, titled Jotwell—The Journal of Things We Like Lots—will “identify, celebrate, and discuss” the best new legal scholarship in a variety of fields, as selected by a distinguished board of legal editors. The legal realm includes over 350 law reviews in North America alone, without counting the numerous journals in related disciplines and new online services.

“Never in legal publishing have so many written so much, and never has it been harder to figure out what to read,” said Froomkin. “Other than asking the right person, there’s no easy and obvious way to find out what’s new, important, and interesting in most areas of the law.”

Jotwell aims to provide and easy way for readers to find what they need to read. The journal will be organized into sections and includes a blog-like space for conversation and feedback. Each section utilizes a team of knowledgeable “Contributing Editors,” who will write at least one essay per year identifying the significance of one or more recent works.
