Cost, location and lifestyle are just a few reasons.

After working nearly two decades as a paralegal, Ivan Gilbert decided to go to law school — but in a virtual world.

Gilbert personifies the typical student at Concord Law School, a distance learning or online law school. He's older, works full time and wanted his Juris Doctorate without massive debt. He tried traditional law school, but dropped out after his first year.

"I always wanted to go back to law school, so when Concord showed up it seems like a great opportunity to me," Gilbert said.

ABA OKs bar exam courses for graduation

Tue, 12/09/2008 - 12:55pm -- Editors

The American Bar Association’s policy-making House of Delegates concurred Aug. 12 that law school may now require students to take and pass bar exam prep courses given by the schools prior to graduation.

Under old section rules, schools could not require successful completion of such a course for graduation.

Proponents said the new rule will assist schools in improving the bar pass rates of their students. The measure passed on an overwhelming voice vote and no one spoke in opposition, according to an ABA release.
