The American Society of International Law (ASIL) has selected Penn Law student Radhika Saxena LL.M.’19 to receive the 2019-20 Arthur C. Helton Fellowship. Saxena is Penn Law’s 2018-19 Human Rights Scholar. Before enrolling at the law school she worked as an attorney in India with a practice focused on women’s rights.
The postgraduate Helton fellowship will help support Saxena during next year during her tenure as the International Legal Fellow with Women Enabled International, an organization working globally to advance the rights of women and girls with disabilities.
The Helton fellowship is named for prominent human rights advocate and ASIL member Arthur C. Helton, and aims to honor his legacy by providing funding for law students and professionals to pursue research and fieldwork on important issues related to international law, human rights, and related areas.
“I’m honored to have received the Helton Fellowship by the American Society of International Law. The fellowship will enable me to continue working for women’s rights at Women Enabled International on their Legal Consent and Capacity project. The project seeks to foster a greater understanding of the ways in which domestic laws, policies, and practices deny women and girls with disabilities their legal capacity and advocate for compliance with International Human Rights standards on the subject.”
