After Harvard Law School, Boston University is bean town’s highest-ranked school from an academic standpoint. Its high law school admissions standards have helped Boston University Law School score the second-highest bar pass rate in the state. It is also third in the city for employment — with 81.2 percent of graduates employed in bar-passage-required or JD-advantage positions within 10 months of graduation. Dean Angela Onwuachi-Willig said BU Law’s highest priority is ensuring students are law practice-ready from day one.
“Our unique Lawyering Lab provides an intensive, hands-on experience for all first-year students, simulating the realities of day-to-day practice and helping develop skills like negotiation, client counseling, problem-solving, and teamwork,” she said
“Second and third-year students have a variety of experiential options to consider. In our first-of-its-kind clinical partnership with MIT, students work under the guidance of experienced attorneys to provide legal counsel to students from MIT and BU in matters related to entrepreneurship, intellectual property, and cyberlaw. One even successfully argued a Freedom of Information Act case against the CIA. Other students recently traveled with faculty to Tijuana to advise immigrants at the border and won asylum claims for several families. And students in our corporate externship program work with major companies such as Wayfair, Trip Advisor, and State Street, and large nonprofits like Boston Children’s Hospital.”
Boston University’s semester-in-practice program puts students in a full-time, immersive law experience. Students work with everyone from the United Nations to the U.S. government. So if you have an interest in health law, BU can find you a spot in the Department of Health and Human Services.
Plus, a select group of graduates are awarded full-time, one-year public service fellowships each year to provide legal assistance to underfunded non-profits and government agencies.
Boston University is housed in a modern complex along the Charles River that includes the new Sumner M. Redstone Building and a renovated law tower. PreLaw ranks the college facility with a B+.
Boston University also has the nation’s largest study abroad programs, with over 100 programs in six continents and some are even made available to non-BU students.
