Oklahoma City University School of Law has embarked on a new era. It’s moved to a new location downtown, in the historic and architecturally praised former Central High School.
Yes, it adds a serious dash of class. But, more importantly, it puts the school in the heart of the city, the state capital.
“We are a School of Law and we’re also a community with a pulse of energy, enthusiasm and drive in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City,” said Dean Jim Roth. “Within just steps of courthouses, corporate headquarters, the State Capitol and a bustling vibe, our students and graduates are passionate about making a difference in the world.  We work each day to help our students to be great, to do good and to be job ready and help change the world around them.”
The change in venue has helped with the school’s emphasis on practical experience. Full-time faculty and working practitioners teach skills integration classes, which demonstrate the pragmatic application of the law for first-year students. Clinical opportunities, including the only Innocence Clinic in the state, provide a window into the world of legal practice, and the law school’s more than 85 externship placement sites give students a real-world, hands-on experience before graduation.
The school already reports strong employment and bar pass numbers. For the Class of 2017, 88.3 percent found employment within 10 months of graduation, and the school reported an utlimate pass rate of 91.1 percent for the Class of 2015. It ranked seventh in the nation for law schools with employment rates higher than their incoming LSAT and GPA scores would otherwise predict. That means the school’s placement office works over time to ensure good jobs.
