At UCI Law, they seek to do the best job in the country of training lawyers for the practice of law at the highest levels of the profession. With pro bono service, clinical training, externship opportunities and thoughtful, comprehensive academics, their students and alumni are well prepared to make a difference in the legal field.

Launched with an approach to legal education rooted in practical, experiential training and public service, UCI Law revolutionized legal education when it opened its doors in 2009. Their founders – students, faculty, staff and community partners – had a vision for a collegial institution dedicated to practice in service of the common good with a dedication both to pro bono and clinical work. Now in its second decade, UCI Law is a larger, stronger, more dynamic academic institution than its founders could have ever imagined.

UCI Law provides an innovative and comprehensive curriculum, and prioritizes public service and a commitment to diversity within the legal profession. UCI Law students have completed more than 90,000 hours of pro bono work in the past decade. Forty-five percent of UCI Law’s graduates are students of color. The collaborative and interdisciplinary community at UCI Law includes extraordinary students, world-renowned faculty, engaged alumni, and enthusiastic supporters.

The National Jurist ranks UCI Law No. 4 in the nation for practical training. Additionally, U.S. News & World Report ranks UCI Law No. 23 in the nation overall out of 192 law schools, and ranks UCI Law’s robust clinical program No. 7 in the nation.

“Law is at the center of all the pressing questions of our time, including artificial intelligence, healthcare, and the environment,” said Dean L. Song Richardson. “At UCI Law, we are driven to improve our communities by grappling with important issues as scholars, as practitioners, and as teachers. We are committed to our values and will eclipse the unprecedented success of our first decade by becoming a top 10 law school in our second.”
