The University of St. Thomas School of Law reopened after a 66-year hiatus in 1999. Located in downtown Minneapolis, the school prides itself on a highly ranked faculty and a mentor externship program, in which all students are paired with a lawyer or judge. Additionally, the school is one of only two in the nation that offers more externships than full-time enrollment.

Tuition for both resident and nonresident is over $20,000. For students who fear they cannot afford their education, University of St. Thomas has a 99 percent grant recieval rate.

The school also has 11 legal clinics, which stands out from the other law schools in the vicinity.

But its strongest association is that it is considered one of the top Catholic law schools in the nation. preLaw ranks it the second most devout Catholic school in the nation. It enjoys a partnership with the Center for Catholic Studies and Holloran Center for Ethical Leadership in the Professions.

Its downtown location is a plus because of the thriving business and legal communities that surround the school. Its building received an A from preLaw, marking it as one of the best in the region.

“We pride ourselves on not only providing our students with all the traditional aspects of a strong legal education, but also going beyond those aspects to equip our students with the relationship skills that are increasingly essential to professional success in a rapidly changing employment market,” said Dean Robert Vischer.

In addition to its three-year J.D. program, the school also offers joint degrees for J.D. students interested in business administration, public policy and leadership, social work and Catholic studies.
