BU to offer online Financial Services Compliance certificate

Boston University School of Law is offering a new online certificate in Financial Services Compliance. The certificate opens up BU Law’s banking and financial services expertise to students seeking to join one of the fastest-growing careers in the financial service industry.

Taught by industry experts and backed by more than 30 years of experience in financial services education through the Graduate Banking Program, the curriculum is specifically tailored for people looking to be compliance officers.

The program hopes to help students grasp the range of competencies required of compliance officers in the financial services industry; Understand the function of a compliance officer within the current US financial services industry; and develop data analysis, risk sensitivity and project management skills.

The 12-credit certificate program will begin in Fall 2017, and will include courses on Fundamentals of Compliance, Defining a Robust Financial Services Compliance Function, Financial Services Compliance & the Management of Risks, Consumer Financial Services and Banking Structure & Regulation.

Courses will be delivered asynchronously online. Upon registration, students will be issued school credentials to access all of their available courses.Since the courses are asynchronous, there is no set class schedule. Students will be able to set their own schedules to manage class time and their professional obligations.Students will receive training on the learning management system platform prior to beginning the program, and ongoing course monitoring will help ensure program quality.

Certificate program graduates who wish to pursue a full LL.M. program will be able to apply their 12 certificate credits to the 24-credit LL.M.
