Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School announced a new masters of taxation degree aimed at attorneys who are pursuing careers in public accounting, government, or industry. The accelerated degree can be completed in one year with ful-time study, or two years with part-time study, through 9 to 13 courses in total.

The program will allow lawyers to gain expertise in taxation, preparing them for careers as certified public accountants.

Professor James Angelini, director of Graduate Programs in Taxation, believes the new degree can enhance many of the skills lawyers already have.

“In combining this knowledge about taxation with their legal training and experience, attorneys will be able to service a wide variety of clients and will be valuable members of any firm,” Angelini said.

The Sawyer Business School is recognized amongst employers as one of the top ten MBA programs with tax concentrations. The university placed sixth nationwide in the Tax Talent 2014 Educational Survey, a ranking of  universities’ tax programs by heads of corporate in-house tax departments.

The school already offers an accelerated MBA for attorneys, which can be completed in 16 months of full-time study and 28 months of part-time study.

Applications for the Masters of Taxation degree are currently being accepted for the upcoming school year.
