New York University School of Law, founded in 1835, became one of the first law schools to routinely admit women and those from groups discriminated against by many other institutions.

Located on the University’s campus in Greenwich Village, NYU Law has been a pioneer — and continues to be a leader — in programs such as clinical education, public service, interdisciplinary colloquia and global studies.

During 2009-2010, over 395 private law firms, public interest organizations, government agencies, corporations and public accounting firms visited NYU Law to interview students. The interviewers came from 26 states and five foreign countries, 72 percent were from outside New York. The median overall salary of the Class of 2009 was $160,000. Each year, more than 130 NYU law grads work as judicial clerks.

NYU also has one of the largest academic law libraries in the world, much like Columbia — with strengths in tax, legal history, intellectual property, constitutional law and the law of democratic institutions. The National Jurist ranked the law library sixth in the nation.

The 2010 Princeton Review edition of The Best 172 Law Schools ranks NYU in third place for best career prospects and in sixth place for best quality of life.
