Legal career expert and Concord Law School professor Richard L. Hermann shares tips on job hunting and legal career management in his new book, “The Lawyer’s Guide to Finding Success in Any Job Market,” from Kaplan Publishing. The book provides a manual for surviving and thriving in the legal profession, even in tough economic times.

“Fired, laid off, let go. No matter what your employer called it, you’re out of a job. It’s an all-too-common occurrence today, but it’s also a remarkable opportunity,” said Hermann, who developed and teaches a Legal Career Management course at Concord Law School of Kaplan University. “Developments in science and technology, major demographic upheavals, and policy crises are just some of the trends that will keep lawyers employed. Legal jobs can be psychologically satisfying, financially rewarding, and, most importantly, recession-proof.”

Among the topics covered in “The Lawyer’s Guide” are legal practice areas that tend to thrive regardless of economic conditions, opportunities to use a law degree in professions outside of legal practice, how to develop a business and marketing plan for solo practice, education and expertise that may impress future employers and basic tips on job hunting, resume building and interviewing.

Professor Hermann, who has 30-plus years of legal career management experience, has authored and edited several books about legal career issues. He is the founder of Federal Reports, Inc., the leading provider of legal career information in the United States, and the co-founder of AttorneyJobs.com, both of which have been sold to Thomson Rueters.

Hermann will also spearhead Concord Law School’s new legal career Web site, www.legalcareerweb.com, featuring job-hunting tips, information about trends in legal job hiring and advice. In addition to posting a bi-weekly blog, Hermann will also host a series of monthly webinars.
