Luiz Fernando Bimbatti Mattos first found his passion for Mergers and Acquisition a few years ago helping his family’s business in Brazil evaluate merger options.
Today, he’s the M&A coordinator at Ethos Veterinary Hospital while pursuing an LL.M. in American Legal Studies at Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
Mattos studied law in Brazil, and then worked in tax law, with a focus on customs and international trade, for Pwc (PricewaterhouseCoopers). Brazil has one of the highest tax burdens in the world, and Mattos helped businesses from all over the world navigate the complex system.
After helping his family’s business with its merger, he undertook a six-month specialization course on mergers and acquisitions.
Then, he decided to attend University of California San Diego to earn a Professional Business Management Certificate. Meanwhile, he worked in several internships and began to build a professional network in California. This work paid off as it led to his current job. He helped the company analyze several M&Z options with other veterinary hospitals across the U.S.
A secondary role at Ethos is as a business development analyst. While an intern, he had built an implementation manual on how to duplicate the company’s current business model for veterinary laboratories. That was then implemented in their Boston hospital, and after its success, the company is once again using his manual to evaluate the feasibility of opening other laboratories.
Mattos believes in continuously improving his skills, being an open-minded person and educating himself in different fields. Having multiple skills can help him deal with all sorts of different kinds of situations. In addition to his law degree, he has technical degrees in electronics, information technology and accounting.
