Albany Law announces online LL.M. in cybersecurity and data privacy

Albany Law School announced a new online LL.M. in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Law. The program is designed for lawyers wanting to advance their careers in a growing practice area.

The curriculum, which is conducted completely online, is taught by professors and practitioners with expertise in information security, data privacy, cybercrime and intellectual property. Candidates complete a total of 24 credits in courses like Digital Evidence, Cybersecurity and Supply Chain Management, Cyberspace Law and Global Privacy Law.

“There is a large need for experts in this field to understand the legal issues around cybersecurity and data privacy,” said Antony Haynes, Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Information Systems at Albany Law School. “Graduates will gain the knowledge to manage cutting-edge legal issues presented by emerging technology.”

Dean Haynes, who developed the curriculum, previously served as an assistant professor in computer science at the Air Force Academy. He also practiced law in Washington, D.C., and has consulted for start-ups around marketing, technology and legal strategy. 

Albany Law partnered with the Global Cyber Alliance, a multinational organization formed to confront and mitigate cyber risks. 

The law school also offers an online master’s degree in legal studies with a specialization in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy as well as a J.D. concentration in Law and Cybersecurity.

“After successfully developing the online Master of Science in Legal Studies in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy, we now extend our leadership and expertise in this area of law to attorneys,” said Alicia Ouellette, Albany Law School’s President & Dean. “We built a curriculum taught by leading experts around the country.”

The LL.M. program will launch in January 2018 and is open to both foreign and domestic lawyers.
