Billboard’s Top Music Law Schools and Lawyers Announced

It’s like music to their ears, no doubt. Earning a spot on Billboard’s list of Top Music Law Schools gives schools some serious hipster cred. (We’re trying to sound very cool, but we know we are failing miserably … However, we continue …)

U.S. News & World Reports and its ranking? Oh please. How droll. Does Drake read that?

We bet not.

Indeed, the University of Miami School of Law was so pleased it fired off a news release about being included.

“We are honored to see Billboard once again acknowledging our efforts, and including us among such prestigious law schools,” said Harold Flegelman, director of the entertainment track in the Graduate Program in Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law, and a lecturer in law. “I am grateful to our faculty, advisors, and alumni for all that they do, and especially to alumnus and prominent music executive Joseph Weinberger, for his unwavering scholarship support.”

See, it’s like getting a Grammy.

The list was released along with a list of the 2019 Top Music Lawyers, which was led by Debbie White, of the law firm Loeb & Loeb, headquartered in Los Angeles. She went to New York University School of Law. Surprisingly, many of law schools honored are based in New York and Southern California. The University of South Dakato School of Law? It did not make the list.

According to Billboard, White was honored because: “White is the U.S. legal adviser for both BTS, the K-pop septet whose success has been both a commercial and cultural milestone, and the boy band’s label and management company, Big Hit Entertainment.”

We have never heard of the band, BTS. However, she also handles North American deals for The Who. The Who we have heard of. (Are we showing our age?)

So, without a further ado, here’s the list, via Billboard, which noted that the schools were chosen from among those with the most alumni included on the Top Music Lawyers list, which numbered 113. Here’s a link to that list.
