It seems as if everyone is doing a podcast these days. Politicians, reporters, pundits, athletes …

Look out Lebron James because here comes Miami Law.

It launched a weekly podcast, the Miami Law Explainer, where expert faculty gives context, relevance, and significance to the news of the day. Miami Law’s Annette Hugue hosts the show that can be heard on iTunes and SoundCloud.

In episode one, Dan Ravicher, director of Miami Law’s Startup Practicum, takes a closer look at the case of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. The youngest self-made female billionaire, once lauded as Steve Jobs reincarnate, was indicted earlier this summer on 11 federal criminal counts.

Innocence Clinic Director Craig Trocino unpacks the Brendan Dassey case. The nephew of “Making a Murderer” co-defendant Steven Avery asked for U.S. Supreme Court to hear his case. Trocino talks about the reasons the court may have passed and what the future holds for the boy who was 16 at the time of the crime, in episode two.

As the Weinstein Company’s sale completes, Professor Drew Dawson, an expert in federal bankruptcy, explains where the victims of Harvey Weinstein stand after the bankruptcy declaration and sale, in episode three. Once all the company has paid its other debts, what is there left for the victims?

In the next two episodes, Professor Kunal Parker will analyze the history and stumbles of the citizenship question poised for inclusion on the 2020 census, and Professor A. Michael Froomkin untangles the complicated case of the online 3D gun blueprint dissemination.

In upcoming episodes, Professors Mary Anne Franks and Andrew Elmore will discuss labor and employment protections for sex workers and other experts will weigh in on voter purges in advance of the fall elections, President Donald Trump’s ongoing trade wars, and the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar.
