It was a GOOD week for schools that cut tuition, as some saw significant increases in their first-year enrollment. The University of Iowa led the way with a 52 percent increase, followed by Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson Law with a 46 percent increase, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Roger Williams University announced a 28 percent increase in law school enrollment, while University of La Verne College of Law reported a 22 percent increase. The University of La Verne dropped tuition from $39,000 to $25,000, a bigger drop than the increase in enrollment. But the school, like most others that have dropped tuition, eliminated scholarships to make up for the lower tuition.
But not every school that has dropped tuition has seen enrollment rise. The University of Arizona, which dropped non-resident tuition from $42,000 to $29,000, is flat. Ohio Northern University — Claude w. Pettit College of Law and the University of Akron reported further enrollment declines. But both schools maintained their median GPA and LSAT scores.
